Take a brief look on this picture (last Monday in Budapest).
Do you have an idea why this man is cleaning the Semmelweis monument in front of the Rókus hospital? The monument is renovated in regards to the 200th anniversary-celebrations for Ignaz Semmelweis (born July 1st, 1818). Hungary is preparing for the celebrations – and so do we: In preparation for the symposium on 21st of June in Vienna (organized by the Semmelweis Foundation, the Medicine University Vienna and the Vienna General Hospital) we (film-team) travelled to Budapest to make interviews with hospital hygiene specialists and people who have a personal relationship to Ignaz Semmelweis.
First we met Dr. Emese Szilágyi (former director of the National Center for Epidemiology) and Dr. Laszlo Magyar – archivist at the Semmelweis Museum of medical history (birthplace of Ignaz Semmelweis). There we met our main interview partner – Dr. Tivadar Hüttl, great-great-grandson of Ignaz Semmelweis. We spent a whole afternoon with Tivadar – a time full of inspiring and touching moments.
The short-film will be demonstrated in the course of the symposium. After the film demonstration Tivadar will hold a lecture “familiar connections and places of memory”, followed by the keynote, presented by Prof. Didier Pittet, director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Patient Safety (Geneva): “Ignaz Semmelweis: his impact on the current millennium”.
We hope to see you at the symposium:
