We just have started the shooting for our short film about Ignaz Semmelweis – his achievements in context of todays’ challenges with hospital acquired infections. His 200th birthday is the reason for this exciting film-project, and it is a great challenge for us to work out a very complex topic and to associate it with the Semmelweis case. The first interviews went very well: Dr. Magda Diab-Elschahawi from the National reference centre for nosocomial infections and antibiotic resistance at the Medical University Vienna and Dr. Anna Durnova, political scientist and author of the book “In the hands of the doctors: Ignaz Semmelweis – pioneer of hygiene” (Residenz Verlag 2015). She gave us exciting insights into the Semmelweis case, which “is a good example to explain the post factual world.”
Now all our attention lies on our trip to Budapest, place of birth of Ignaz Semmelweis. There we will meet his great-great grandson, an encounter that we are very much looking forward to. We will keep you informed about our impressions in Budapest.
By the way: The film will be presented in the course of the symposium that the Semmelweis Foundation is organising together with the Medicine university Vienna on June 21st in Vienna. Among the special guests will be Prof. Didier Pittet from the WHO, great admirer of Ignaz Semmelweis an honorary president of the Semmelweis Foundation. About the detailed programme we will inform you in the course of the next weeks!
